Wellness Tip
I’m writing this week’s newsletter on a plane to Virginia for a family lake vacation with my brothers and families.
Remember the movie The Great Outdoors with Dan Akroyd and John Candy? It’ll probably go something like that.
Nutrition is difficult enough for all of us, during travel is almost impossible.
Here’s a simple tip that makes travel nutrition easy for me:
Eat as little carbs as possible.
That means no starches, potatoes, rice, sweetener, nothing. I’ll eat fruit if I can find it and as much vegetables as I can get, but that’s about it for carbs during the travel phase.
This works because it keeps your blood sugar down and avoids spikes, which are exacerbated with all the other chaos travel causes on the body.
Keeping your blood sugar levels stable helps you in general, especially during travel.
The other reason I do this is that if I end up eating something with a high sugar content, it won’t be on top of an already high amount of sugar ingested.
Combine this with hydrating with as much water as possible, and the effects of travel are dramatically reduced for me.
Better energy
Less feeling like crap
Less bloating
No weight gain which is typical during travel
Less swelling
I apply this for any non-traditional day as well - If i’m in a session all day, at a conference, or doing a day-trip with family, I’m seeking out protein & fat sources and keeping the sugar to a minimum.

Do you like networking?
I love it, and certain types of people I know do. But many don’t.
Whether you like to or not - most people don’t have time to network as much as they like - entrepreneurs building companies are always time strapped, people in big companies are so full of internal networking and activities that they rarely get outside of company walls.
But we can all probably agree that effective networking benefits our lives in many ways, right?
So how do we do it?
I’ve been a consistent networker for the past five years, and in the past two years have really ramped it up - at I’d say in these past two years I’ve advanced from beginner networker, to ninja level networker.
There are many points to mastering networking, but one for today - is aligning my interests with my activities.
This means when connecting with people, I try to do it while doing activities I enjoy doing.
Currently those primary activities are:
Walking meetings
Sauna/cold plunge sessions
I’ve also begun hosting my own wellness focused events - this past week I hosted a guided breathwork sauna session.
I prefer these types of meetings over coffee because I get to do a wellness focused activity I need to do daily anyways, and some kind of movement or activity that doesn’t require coginitive load can break the ice easier and allow for more meaningful connection and conversation.
Hosting my own event is also 10x better than a traditional networking event, because I get to gather people on my terms using the benefits above, and I get to “stack” the group with as many people within my own network as possible.
If networking is something you wish you did more but don’t have the time, think about these factors to get started:
What do you like to do that others might like to do?
What movement related things can you do that pretty much anyone can also do?
What timing works for your schedule?
These simple questions will likely yield a few activities that by scheduling will improve your quality of life, and when combined with people you’d like to connect with will amplify your experience.

Talk to you next week,
Mike
